JK Rowling has competition: my annual report’s been published

JK Rowling may have just published another bestseller, but it’s a bit short on science content.

If you’re interested in science, in particular science at the Food Standards Agency, why not take a look at my sixth Chief Scientist Annual Report. It’s interesting, it’s available on our website and it doesn’t include any swear-words.

The past year has been a challenging one for us. In line with other Government departments, we set out to achieve our objectives with reduced resources, fewer staff and less recourse to regulation.

We have, however, continued to deliver on our objective of ensuring ‘safer food for the nation’, spending £25m (about 18% of the Agency’s budget) on more than 100 science and evidence-gathering projects.

The online interactive edition of the report, which is written in a reader-friendly style, includes live links that should enable you to drill down for as much detail as you require.

It covers a wide range of topics and provides updates on a selection of individual research projects and surveys published in the 2011/12 financial year, including highlights from each of the high-level programmes.

I do hope that you find the report a useful and informative reference on food science!
