Make every week Food Safety Week

Before Food Safety Week draws to a close I wanted to take the opportunity to get in one final reminder that it’s good to save money and avoid unnecessary food waste but not to economise with food safety.

Research recently carried out by the Agency showed that most people have seen the cost of their typical shopping basket rise and almost half of us are trying to make better use of leftover food. But, more worryingly, the research also showed that lots of people are also taking more risks with their health and ignoring 'use by' dates, while others are keeping leftovers for longer than the recommended limit of two days in the fridge.

We’ve had some great opportunities to help spread our advice on leftovers with guest blogs on the Which? website and on MyFamilyClub.co.uk.

So in a last ditch attempt  (for this week, at least) to try to debunk some of the same old food myths, such as ‘use by dates are set by businesses to make us buy more’ and ‘you can tell if your food’s off by giving it a sniff’, we’ve published a series of articles from food experts explaining the science behind our advice. If there are any other issues you’d like to know the science behind, let us know and we’ll do our best to explain.

Make it Food Safety Week in your household every week!
